The Cleveland Browns don’t seem too worried about fired general manager Michael Lombardi still having papers with team letterhead.
Lombardi caused a stir when he was spotted with New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick at the NFL Scouting Combine last week holding a piece of paper with two Browns logos on it. Lombardi was fired by the Browns earlier in the month and swiftly hired by the Patriots as an “assistant to the coaching staff.”
Browns president Alec Scheiner said the team will review if Lombardi took Cleveland information with him to the Patriots.
“The thing is — I will say this — we have a lot of pieces of paper in our building that have a front with our Browns logo, and then it’s blank on the back,” Scheiner told The Fan 92.3 on Tuesday. “So, if that wasn’t the case here, we’ll take care of it and we’ll do it internally, and we’ll handle it that way. It might have been the case that there was actually nothing on the interior of that piece of paper.”
Since Lombardi was at the combine, it was assumed he was holding some scouting notes he had taken while with the Browns. Scheiner said the information that Lombardi was potentially holding might be old.
“If it’s information that’s leaving our building, then we’re concerned and we’ll address it,” Scheiner said. “That holds true for anyone that leaves the building. We’re cognizant about it. You have to be vigilant about it, but after a few weeks, all of the information is pretty dated on it anyway.”
