Bryce Brentz, Garin Cecchini Among 12 Red Sox Spring Training Roster Cuts

Anthony RanaudoFORT MYERS, Fla. — The Boston Red Sox’s spring training clubhouse cleared out a bit Thursday.

The Red Sox cut 12 players from major league camp, leaving Boston’s big league camp with 46 players. The remaining 46 players include 35 from the club’s 40-man roster and 11 non-roster invitees.

Anthony Ranaudo, Alex Wilson, Garin Cecchini, Bryce Brentz, Alex Hassan, Matt Barnes, Miguel Celestino, Noe Ramirez, Henry Owens, Blake Swihart, Heiker Meneses and Travis Shaw were cut from big league camp Thursday.

Ranaudo, Wilson, Cecchini, Brentz and Hassan were optioned to Triple-A Pawtucket. Barnes, Celestino, Ramirez, Owens, Swihart, Meneses and Shaw were reassigned to minor league camp.

Red Sox manager John Farrell said at JetBlue Park on Thursday that he was very pleased with how camp went for several of the young players. The Boston skipper said it speaks to the depth, unity and overall talent in the organization.
