Monday was Opening Day at Citi Field, where Washington Nationals outfielder Bryce Harper quickly endured a violent knee-to-the-head collision.

Harper was sliding into second base in the top of the second inning when the New York Mets’ Eric Young Jr. accidentally kicked him in the face. The 21-year-old slugger laid on the ground for a few moments before team trainers escorted him off the field.

Although the encounter appeared to be concussion-inducing, Harper remained in the game and returned to his post in left field for the bottom of the inning.

Harper has been criticized in the past for his aggressive on-field behavior. The young star underwent midseason knee surgery last year, limiting him to just 118 games.

Check out the second-inning crash between Harper and Young in the GIF below.
