A furry friend paid a visit to Brad Stevens on Friday. “Trip,” the nickname for Butler Bulldog III, stopped by TD Garden to see Stevens, former coach of Butler’s men’s basketball team and still a close friend of the program.
Trip was seen roaming the halls of the arena prior to the game, posing for pictures. While Stevens is probably the most famous human associated with Butler — Hinkle Fieldhouse being the most popular landmark — he admitted he’s easily humbled by the school’s panting mascot.
“It was fun to see him in here,” Stevens said. “He came by the office and went out on the floor for a minute and did what he does. He just finds his way into buildings.
“It’s funny, when we had camp at Butler — before Trip, this was Blue II — my wife and I would serve pizzas at lunch. This lady came in with her daughter, and they were visiting Butler, thinking maybe they were going to go to school there. She said, ‘You look familiar.’ And I was just serving pizzas at camp. She said, ‘Do I know you?’ I said, ‘I don’t know, what’s your name?'”
Before determining Stevens’ identity, the woman shook him off.
“She said, ‘Anyways, where do they keep that dog?'” Stevens recalled. “That was all of our places at Butler. We were clearly on a (lower) level, so it was nice of him to come up and visit us.”
