1395024354_carlRoush Fenway Racing’s Carl Edwards won Sunday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Bristol Motor Speedway after the race was stopped with two laps to go because of rain.

“We’re in the Chase, and we’re going to go out and win this championship,” Edwards said. “I can’t believe we turned this thing around. We were terrible Saturday (in practice).”

Edwards triumphed even after sitting through a two-hour delay at the beginning of the race as well as a three-hour, 19-minute red flag for even more rain during the event.

Edwards’ teammate at Roush Fenway Racing, Ricky Stenhouse Jr., finished second.

Edwards is now third in the Sprint Cup Series standings with 152 points, 11 points back of leader Brad Keselowski. The win makes it almost certain he’ll be in the Chase.
