Los Angeles Dodgers rightfielder Yasiel Puig generated much controversy this offseason with his frequent injuries and partying habits, butthe team’s general manager, Ned Colletti, reports that the 23-year-old is trying to turn himself around for the better.
Puig called a meeting last week to ask Colletti, his coaches and fellow teammates how he could improve as a player and as a member of the Dodgers organization.

The meeting comes shortly after manager Don Mattingly expressed frustration with Puig’s performance on the field. Puig arrived at spring training batting .122 in exhibition games and having gained 15 pounds. Mattingly even referred to him as “the boy who cried wolf” when discussing his suspicious injuries.
Dodgers fans should hope that Puig’s brave gesture is a sign of maturity and growth that will carry through the rest of the season.
