Dominique Wilkins Not Impressed With LeBron James' 61-Point Game Against Bobcats

Former Atlanta Hawks forward Dominique Wilkins, aka “The Human Highlight Film,” was one of the greatest scorers in NBA history.

He led the league in scoring (30.3 ppg) during the 1985-86 season on the way to his first and only MVP award.

While many current and former NBA stars were tweeting messages of congratulations to LeBron James for his career-high 61-point effort against the Charlotte Bobcats on Monday night, Wilkins let it be known that he wasn’t all that impressed by the Miami Heat superstar’s performance.

It’s difficult to disagree with a lot of what Wilkins said. Charlotte allows opponents to shoot about 44 percent from the field, 37 percent from the 3-point line and ranks 22nd in the league in rebounding. This team also lacks an elite one-on-one defender on the perimeter.

This wasn’t even the first time that the Bobcats allowed an opponent to score 60-plus points in a single game this season. Carmelo Anthony set a New York Knicks record with 62 points against Charlotte at Madison Square Garden on Jan. 24.

But in fairness to James, this is the NBA, and scoring 61 points on any team is impressive.

It’s difficult to compare different eras of pro basketball, especially when the game is officiated so much differently today than it was when Wilkins played in the 1980s.

We can all agree that James and Wilkins are two of the best scorers the NBA will ever see.
