Dustin Penner’s return to the Anaheim Ducks was a brief one.
The 31-year-old winger, who began his career with the then-Mighty Ducks in 2005-06 and played stints in Edmonton and Los Angeles before signing with Anaheim again last June, was traded to the Washington Capitals on Tuesday in exchange for a fourth-round pick.
Penner, a University of Maine product, now goes from the team with the NHL’s best record to a Washington club that is battling for the final wild-card spot in the East, and he doesn’t exactly seem happy about it.
He sent out this (probably facetious) tweet Tuesday, saying the Ducks “used” him by trading him away just 49 games into his new tenure with the team.

Penner has 13 goals and 19 assists this season.
The Ducks also made two other trades Tuesday, sending goalie Viktor Fasth to the Oilers and acquiring defenseman Stephane Robidas from the Dallas Stars.
