Ross Barkley put himself in the running for the Premier League’s “Goal of the Season” award on Tuesday by, wait for it … running.

Barkley scored Everton’s first goal in its 3-0 victory over Newcastle United on Tuesday in spectacular fashion.

The 20-year-old midfielder took a pass and dribbled nearly 70 yards before beating Newcastle goalkeeper Tim Krul with a left-footed shot.

Everton striker Romelu Lukaku would have been furious with Barkley (for not passing him the ball in a two-on-one situation) had he not scored. Sometimes talented players just want to do it all for themselves.

It was Barkley’s fifth league goal of the season made it clear to all why he will most likely play for England at the 2014 FIFA World Cup and is a transfer target for Manchester United and a number of other clubs.
