Should Aston Villa avoid relegation from the Premier League, fans will point to this Fabian Delph goal as a main signpost in the unpredictable campaign.

Delph, 24, scored the game-winning goal for Aston Villa in its upset victory over league-leading Chelsea on Saturday.

With the game scoreless in the 82nd minute, Aston Villa midfielder Marc Albrighton crossed toward Delph, who redirected the pass beyond the reach of Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech into the goal.

Delph, 24, probably was the only person at 42,788-capacity Villa Park who saw it coming.

It was the third goal that Delph, a central midfielder by trade, has scored this season.

Delph’s goal gave Aston Villa three much-needed points in the standings. Aston Villa now sit 10th in the league with nine games remaining in the season — nine points outside of the relegation zone.
