Jim KellyBuffalo Bills Hall of Fame quarterback Jim Kelly’s oral cancer has returned.

Kelly was first diagnosed with jaw cancer last June and underwent a successful procedure that removed his cancerous cells, but this diagnosis is more severe, according to ESPN’s Mike Rodak. The 54-year-old is set to receive five to six weeks of radiation and chemotherapy treatment at Erie County Medical Center in Buffalo, N.Y.

“Our team of head and neck cancer specialists is determining a course of treatment that will allow Mr. Kelly to battle this cancer successfully,” Erie County Medical Center said in a statement. “Mr. Kelly has asked that you keep him and his family in your thoughts and prayers.”

Kelly underwent an initial surgery to relieve his face and jaw pain on Wednesday and has another surgery scheduled for March 25. He will then begin radiation and chemotherapy.

“I need lots of prayers,” Kelly said.
