Luis Suarez had a new look Sunday but he was up to his old tricks.
Suarez wore a unique pair of cleats in Liverpool’s 3-0 victory over Manchester United in the Premier League. The Uruguayan sported adidas’ “Samba Primeknit” boots — the world’s first hand-knitted soccer shoes.
“The limited edition boot (available from Monday March 17th) is the first football boot to have an upper that is knitted from heel-to-toe, providing a bespoke second-skin fit that retains the strength of a conventional boot,” Adidas said.
Before the game, Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers said he would have no problem with Suarez’s new style as long as he kept firing in the goals.
“If he scores goals, then it doesn’t matter,” Rodgers remarked on Friday, according to ESPN. “I spoke to him a couple of days ago on it. It’s an individual thing. Players now wear what they want to wear. As long as they get the get the job done, that’s the important thing.”
Suarez satisfied Rodgers by scoring in the 84th minute to put the game out of reach. It was Suarez’s league-leading 25th Premier League goal of the season.
