The work Michael Sam has put in since the NFL Scouting Combine has paid off.
Sam ran an unofficial 4.69-second 40-yard dash at his Missouri pro day Thursday, NFL Media’s Albert Breer reported.
Sam also injured his hamstring and seemed “done for the day,” Breer reported.
Sam ran a 4.91 official 40-yard dash at the combine in February. His time in Indianapolis was among the worst for defensive ends. Sam’s lack of top-end athleticism scared teams about his NFL potential.
Sam is the first openly gay NFL draft prospect. He came out weeks before the combine. He currently projects as a fifth- or sixth-round selection.
