Harvard’s season came to an end Saturday night with a third-round loss in the NCAA tournament to fourth-seeded Michigan State, 80-73.
The Crimson overcame a 14-point halftime deficit to claw their way back into the game, taking their first lead on Laurent Rivard’s 3-pointer with 7:11 to play, but the Spartans were able to overcome the late scare from the No. 12 Crimson. Wesley Saunders led Harvard with a team-high 22 points while Brandyn Curry chipped in 12 off the bench.
Michigan State’s Adreian Payne, who was coming off a 41-point second-round game, was held to just 12 points on the night, but Branden Dawson stepped up for the Spartans. Dawson shot 12-for-15 from the field to score a career-high 26 points while adding nine rebounds on the night.
The Spartans will face the winner of Virginia and Memphis, who will play Sunday.
