The New York Jets’ eternal search for a quality starting quarterback continued Friday night when they released longtime starter Mark Sanchez and signed veteran Michael Vick.

Vick’s deal is for one year and is worth $5 million, a source told ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Vick, 33, spent the last five years with the Philadelphia Eagles, with whom he never played in more than 13 games in a season. Vick battled injuries last season and appeared in just seven games, and he also lost his starting job to Nick Foles.
Sanchez, 27, threw 68 touchdown passes and 69 interceptions in his four-year career with the Jets after they traded up in the 2009 NFL draft to select the USC star with the No. 5 overall pick. After leading the Jets to back-to-back AFC Championship Game appearances in 2009 and 2010, Sanchez’s career in New York went downhill fast. He threw 39 TD passes and 36 interceptions in his final two years with the Jets, and he also failed to complete better than 57 percent of his passes in that span. He lost the starting job to rookie Geno Smith last season and didn’t play in a game because of a shoulder injury.
Unfortunately for Sanchez, his most famous moment with the Jets will be the infamous “Butt Fumble” on Thanksgiving two years ago.
