Sunday night was just like old times for Chicago Blackhawks winger Patrick Kane.

The Buffalo native was back home for a date with the Sabres, and he commemorated the occasion with one of the highlight-reel goals for which he’s known.

Taking control of the puck in the neutral zone, Kane threaded the puck between the legs of Sabres defenseman Christian Ehrhoff and stickhandled around UMass Lowell product Chad Ruhwedel before sending a rocket over the shoulder of goalie Jhonas Enroth.

Kane’s tally put the Blackhawks up 1-0 early in the first period, and a goal by Jonathan Toews a minute into the third gave the defending champs a 2-1 win.

“It’s probably one of the first things I look for when the schedule comes out is when we’re playing Buffalo,” Kane said after the game, via the Chicago Tribune. “I spend the whole summer here. It’s nice for me, because I have all my family and friends here that I grew up with. I definitely still feel very connected to the city.”
