Patriots Depth Chart Reset: Brandon LaFell To Compete With Aaron Dobson

by

Mar 19, 2014

Brandon LaFell, Jon BosticThe New England Patriots have done a nice job upgrading their roster through free agency, but they still have nearly 30 players to add before training camp.

The Patriots have 61 players on their active roster, and they can carry 90 into training camp. The Patriots are especially shallow at linebacker and tight end.

The position to watch during training camp is wide receiver. Julian Edelman and Danny Amendola will have key roles in 2014, but the starting “X” receiver job will come down to newly signed Brandon LaFell and second-year players Aaron Dobson and Kenbrell Thompkins.

LaFell is the most dependable option, since he has a proven track record after four years of production with the Carolina Panthers. Dobson and Thompkins are more promising, however. Last year, Thompkins opened the season with the starting role, but he relinquished it to Dobson midway through the year.
