Sam McGuffieThe New England Patriots cleared out some of the youth on the back end of their roster Monday.

The Patriots released running backs Sam McGuffie and Quentin Hines, defensive tackle Cory Grissom, linebacker Taylor Reed, offensive linemen Elvis Fisher and Brice Schwab, and wide receiver T.J. Moe.

McGuffie, a former high school YouTube sensation, and Reed were late-season additions to the Patriots’ practice squad.

Grissom was placed on injured reserve during training camp after suffering a high-ankle sprain during the preseason. Moe’s release was previously announced by his agent. Hines and Fisher were released with “failed physical” designations after spending the season on injured reserve. McGuffie and Reed were signed to future contracts after the Patriots were knocked out of the playoffs in January.

All seven players are entering their second year in the NFL.
