New England is unusually well-represented in this year’s NCAA tournament, with UMass, Harvard, UConn and Providence all earning invites to the Big Dance.
Only two of those teams are favored in their opening game, but President Barack Obama envisions three advancing to the Round of 32.
As revealed in ESPN’s annual “Barack-etology” segment, Obama has No. 6 seed UMass defeating whichever No. 11 seed it will face (Iowa and Tennessee will battle for that honor Wednesday night), No. 7 seed UConn taking down No. 10 St. Joseph’s, No. 11 Providence falling to No. 6 North Carolina and 12th-seeded Harvard — the president’s alma mater — knocking off a higher seed for the second straight year by beating No. 5 Cincinnati.
Harvard pulled one of the biggest upsets of the 2013 tourney, stunning New Mexico as a No. 14 seed.
That’s where the region’s luck runs out in Obama’s mind, though. He has the three advancing schools all losing before the Sweet 16.
Obama’s Final Four consists of Florida, Arizona, Michigan State and Louisville, with the Spartans taking home the title.
