Red Sox Release Francisco Cordero, Demote Four To Set 25-Man Roster

Francisco CorderoBoston Red Sox executive vice president/general manager Ben Cherington announced a number of roster moves Saturday.

The Red Sox released right-handed pitcher Francisco Cordero and reassigned left-handed pitcher Tommy Layne, right-handed pitcher Brayan Villarreal, outfielder Corey Brown and infielder Mike McCoy to minor league camp.

Following the moves, the Red Sox now have 25 players in big league camp and two players on the 15-day disabled list.

Boston opens the 2014 regular season Monday in Baltimore against the Orioles.
