An official’s error almost robbed Calgary Flames rookie Corban Knight of the opportunity to take home proof of his first NHL goal.
The goal itself was never in doubt — it clearly beat dejected Anaheim Ducks goalie Frederik Andersen in the final minutes of the Flames’ 7-2 rout Thursday night. But as the 23-year-old Knight celebrated his milestone, linesman Lonnie Cameron scooped up the puck and casually flipped it to a young fan in the first row.
Luckily, Knight’s teammates had his back. Flames center Mikael Backlund, who scored twice in the win, was able to retrieve the puck, swapping his stick with the spectator to do so.
Knight was, understandably, all smiles in the locker room afterward.
