Kelly Olynyk, Chris BabbChris Babb will finish the season as an NBA player.

The Boston Celtics will sign Babb through the remainder of the season, Yahoo! Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski reports. That would make Babb the second player this season retained after initially signing as a 10-day, joining Chris Johnson.

Wojnarowski calls the deal a “multiyear” contract, although any seasons beyond this one almost certainly are non-guaranteed.

On the eve of the last day of Babb’s second 10-day contract, Celtics coach Brad Stevens said Wednesday that he had no information on if the team planned to keep Babb — but he wouldn’t mind it if they did.

“I know that we are thin on wings with size,” Stevens said of the 6-foot-5 guard. “That being said, obviously, he’s a wing with size. What we do moving forward, I don’t know. I love having him around. I think he’s great. He’s an unbelievable teammate. When he’s played, he’s given us good minutes.”

Babb, 24, has appeared in six games with the Celtics, averaging 2.2 points and 1.3 rebounds per game. His second 10-day contract expires Thursday, meaning the Celtics had to sign Babb for the rest of the season or release him.
