There’s a reason the New England Patriots haven’t honored Vince Wilfork’s reported request to be released.
Patriots owner Robert Kraft is trying to re-recruit the Patriots nose tackle, NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport reported Tuesday. Kraft and Wilfork have spoken, and the Patriots’ owner has made progress in making the 10-year veteran feel wanted by the team. The two sides still need to work out Wilfork’s contract situation.
The Patriots offered Wilfork a restructured contract based on playing time, CSNNE.com’s Tom E. Curran reported Monday night. Wilfork still could earn his full $7.5 million salary without playing every game. An extension also was part of the restructure, but terms weren’t known.
Wilfork is recovering from a torn Achilles suffered in Week 4 of the 2013 season. He has an $11.6 million salary-cap hit in 2014, and the Patriots likely are trying to lower it.
