Vince Wilfork might have to take a pay cut to stay with the New England Patriots.
The Patriots approached Wilfork about “altering” his contract, according to ESPN.com. Wilfork’s contract counts $11.6 million against the salary cap in 2014. The Patriots could save up to $8 million by extending or cutting Wilfork.
Wilfork played four games last season before tearing his Achilles. The defensive tackle has played 10 season with the Patriots since being drafted No. 21 overall in the 2004 NFL draft.
Wilfork was named a first-team All-Pro and was selected to the Pro Bowl in 2012. He’s entering the last year of a five-year, $40 million contract he signed in 2010.
