BU (24-10) will host second-seeded Illinois (19-14) on Wednesday in the first round of the 32-team tournament. Tipoff for the game, which will be televised on ESPN2, is scheduled for 7 p.m. If the Terriers win, they’d face either Clemson or Georgia State in the next round.

Vermont (22-10) will visit No. 2 Georgia (19-13) on Wednesday for an 8 p.m. game that will be televised on ESPNU. If the Catamounts advance, they’d face the Louisiana Tech-Iona winner.

Teams such as BU and Vermont, which won their regular-season conference titles but lost in their conference tournaments, receive automatic bids to the NIT. The selection committee then fills the remaining spots with the best teams still out there.
