Ukrainian Soccer Player Saves Opponent’s Life After Major Collision (Video)

Oleh Husev endured a near-death experience in Saturday’s Ukrainian Premier League game against Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk when his head collided with the Dnipro goalkeeper’s knee, but Dnipro midfielder Jaba Kankava’s quick reaction may have saved his unconscious opponent’s life.

The collision knocked Dynamo Kiev captain Husev to the ground and caused him to swallow his tongue, according to NBC Sports.

In a heroic deed, Kankava immediately rushed to Husev’s aid, removing the tongue from his throat so that his airways were no longer obstructed.

Husev abruptly regained consciousness and was escorted off the field by medical staff. The Dynamo Kiev club website reported that he suffered a mild concussion and a jaw fracture from the accident, but without Kankava’s intervention, the damage may have been much worse.
