A University of New Hampshire men’s basketball staffer has been fired, arrested and banned from campus amid allegations that he used a hidden locker room camera to spy on his own players.
School officials say Scott A. Weitzell, 50, a part-time operations director for the UNH men’s team, planted a cellphone camera in a locker during an away game at the University of Vermont on Jan. 20. Players reportedly found the camera and told authorities a month later.
Weitzell reportedly was uncooperative when police attempted to execute a search warrant at his Newmarket, N.H., house, leading to him being charged with attempting to falsify evidence and resisting arrest. An investigation into additional charges, including invasion of privacy, is still ongoing.
“At this point, it doesn’t appear that any of the images seized include people under the age of 18, and investigators are exercising every avenue to make sure the victims are all identified and provided counseling or support services,” UNH Police Chief Paul Dean told reporters Wednesday, via the Union Leader.
Weitzell was arrested Feb. 21, released on $3,000 personal recognizance bail and ordered to stay away from the UNH campus. He is due back in court April 1.
