The New England Revolution struggled in their MLS season opener Saturday night, losing 4-0 to the Houston Dynamo at BBVA Compass Stadium.
American forward Will Bruin led the Dynamo attack with two goals, both of which were scored in the first 13 minutes.  Houston midfielder Oscar Boniek GarcÃa increased his team’s advantage to 3-0 with a 23rd minute goal. Veteran midfielder Omar Cummings, who came on as a substitute in the 78th minute, added an extra insurance goal two minutes into stoppage time to cap a brilliant offensive performance by Houston.
The Revolution lost left back Kevin Alston to a hamstring injury in the 19th minute. He limped off the field and was replaced by Darrius Barnes.
Dynamo goalkeeper Tally Hall didn’t need to work very hard to pick up his first win of the year. The Houston defense did a great job preventing the Revolution from creating quality scoring chances in the final third of the field, and it also successfully defended 11 New England corner kicks. As a result, Hall was forced to make only one save in 90 minutes.
The Revolution will look to avoid an early-season losing streak when they travel to Philadelphia for a matchup with the Union on March 15.
