The Chicago Cubs and Arizona Diamondbacks will honor Wrigley Field’s 100th birthday April 23 with some sweet throwback uniforms that pay homage to their storied past.
Well, one team’s storied past.
The Diamondbacks are, of course, an expansion team that played their first game in 1998, meaning they will take the field against the Cubs in jerseys with no connection to their franchise.
The uniform of choice is that of the Kansas City Packers, who squared off against the Chicago Federals in the first-ever game at Wrigley Field — then known as Weeghman Park — on April 23, 1914. Check out the uniform below, courtesy of SportsLogos.net’s Chris Creamer.

As seen in the photo above, Arizona will manage to keep at least some ties to its current team by wearing its modern-day hat and sporting a Diamondbacks logo on the right sleeve.
The Cubs, meanwhile, will celebrate their rich tradition by donning their original Chicago Federals threads, seen below.
