Apparently many Arizona state senators aren’t hockey fans.
Like in many other states, Arizona residents can choose to have specialized license plates for local sports teams. Currently, there are options for the Arizona Diamondbacks, the Arizona Cardinals, and the Phoenix Suns, but there is no Phoenix Coyotes option.
On Wednesday, the Arizona Senate failed to pass a bill that would have allowed Coyotes license plates to be created.
“We are very disappointed that the Arizona Senate did not approve Coyotes license plates (14-14 vote),” the Phoenix Coyotes said in a statement that was sent to Forbes. “A special thanks to House and Governor Jan Brewer for being so supportive. Â The Coyotes will continue to try and get our license plate bill passed. Â Charities are the losers here for absolutely no reason.”
Perhaps what’s most interesting about the fact that the bill didn’t pass is that no state money would have been used in their production. Of the $25 annual fee for owning one of the license plates, $17 would go to charities affiliated with the team, and $8 would be used as a “special plate administration fee.” The Coyotes would have had to pay the $32,000 to cover production costs.
