Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Jose Reyes didn’t even make it through one full inning of Opening Day baseball before leaving the game with a hamstring issue.
The Blue Jays placed Reyes on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday with left hamstring tightness. Reyes battled hamstring issues toward the end of spring training and was questionable for Opening Day.
Reyes hasn’t been able to stay fully healthy over the last year, playing in just 93 games last season with a .296/.353/.427 slash line, 10 home runs and 15 stolen bases.
“I want to be there and help my ballclub,” Reyes said Monday night, via ESPN.com. “I want to help my ballclub for 150 games, or even 162 games. So it’s painful, and disappointing for me, because I put in so much work in the offseason.
“And now I feel like I don’t do anything.”
The Blue Jays’ leadoff man now has been placed on the DL nine times in his career, and the latest is his fifth trip for hamstring reasons.
