Brad Stevens: Marcin Gortat Sneaking Into Celtics’ Huddle ‘Not A Huge Concern’

BOSTON — Oftentimes, the things that draw the most attention on social media barely register with folks in the real world.

So while Twitter went ablaze with jokes and chastisements of Washington Wizards center Marcin Gortat, who sneaked into a Boston player huddle during the third quarter of Wednesday night’s game, Celtics coach Brad Stevens didn’t even catch Gortat’s stunt until it was almost over.

Of all the things Stevens has to worry about, though — like the fact that his team dropped its 53rd game of the season Friday — keeping an opposing big man out of his players’ huddles is low on the list.

“You know, that’s not a huge concern of mine,” Stevens said. “Obviously, it’s something where, you want to have the opportunity to speak to your team about what your team needs to hear. But I’m a lot more concerned with how we played than what that huddle was like.”

Gortat briefly jumped into a huddle with Rajon Rondo, Jared Sullinger, Kris Humphries, Chris Johnson and Jeff Green during a stoppage in play during the third quarter, when the game’s outcome was pretty much decided. Rondo has been known to do the same on occasion, something a few Celtics fans seemed to forget in condemning Gortat.

Check out the moment, which was either funny, infuriating or inconsequential, depending on one’s point of view.
