Reilly SmithBOSTON — Reilly Smith was named the 7th Player Award winner on Saturday afternoon at TD Garden. The 7th Player Award is given to the Bruins player that exceeded expectations. Smith was recognized prior to the Bruins-Flyers game.

Smith has had an impressive first season with the Bruins. He’s scored 19 goals and added 30 assists in his first full season with the Black and Gold. Smith was characterized by many as a throw-in player in the blockbuster trade last summer that sent Tyler Seguin to Dallas and brought Loui Eriksson to Boston.

The 23-year-old was especially effective in a stretch that went from November through January. During that stretch, Smith scored 17 goals to go along with 17 assists.

Smith will receive $5,000 to donate to a charity of his choice for winning the award.
