BOSTON — The most important thing for the Bruins entering Saturday’s game with the Buffalo Sabres was to stay healthy. That didn’t necessarily go as planned, though.
The Bruins lost two players over the course of their 4-1 win over the Sabres at TD Garden, but there’s not a whole lot of information about Patrice Bergeron or Daniel Paille who both left the game early.
The more serious injury has to be Paille’s. The Boston winger was walloped by Jake McCabe with a big hit in the third period. McCabe was ejected for the hit, which earned him a five-minute major for interference and a game misconduct. Paille attempted to skate off the ice after suffering the injury but almost fell over upon reaching his feet. He was helped off the ice and didn’t return. The veteran winger has already suffered two concussions this season. Bruins head coach Claude Julien had no update on Paille following the game.
There doesn’t seem to be nearly as much to worry about with Bergeron, though. The center didn’t return to the ice to begin the third period after notching his 30th goal of the season in the second period. Bergeron missed Thursday’s game with a minor injury, and Julien didn’t seem too concerned with these latest developments, whatever they might be. The head coach called Bergeron’s injury “very minor.”
The B’s were already without forward Chris Kelly, who is currently dealing with back spasms. Kelly will also sit out Sunday’s game in New Jersey, but the Bruins are hopeful he’ll be ready when the playoffs begin next week.
