WILMINGTON, Mass. — Boston Bruins head coach Claude Julien has said multiple times that he’ll find spots to rest his players down the stretch. Tuesday was one of those.
Bruins veterans Zdeno Chara, Patrice Bergeron, Jarome Iginla, David Krejci and Loui Eriksson all got the day off from practice at Ristuccia Arena.
“There’s rest there for everybody, especially for the guys who were at the Olympics,” Julien said. “You’re kind of encouraging them to stay off the ice. We’ve been saying we’ll be doing that when we got back. We’ve had a couple of times where they’ve had two days off straight. I think that makes a big difference in guys trying to recover.”
Chara, Bergeron, Krejci and Eriksson all participated in the Winter Olympics in February and have been given time off here and there since returning from Sochi. Goalie Tuukka Rask, the other Bruins representative at the Winter Games, did practice Tuesday.
The Bruins also recalled forward Ryan Spooner on an emergency basis from Providence on Tuesday. The 22-year-old has played in 22Â games with the big club this season and will travel with the Bruins for their Wednesday night game against the Detroit Red Wings.
Julien said everyone is expected to make the trip to Detroit, but Spooner could crack the lineup. Carl Soderberg’s wife is expected to go into labor soon, and Krejci has been battling a sore throat.
