BOSTON — Bruins captain Zdeno Chara and Detroit Red Wings defenseman Brendan Smith got into a shoving match at the end of the first period in Sunday’s first-round Stanley Cup playoff game at TD Garden.
Smith, who stands eight inches shorter than Chara, tried to throw a few jabs at the Boston defenseman. It didn’t rattle Chara, though, as he just stood there and laughed at Smith. Maybe Chara was just surprised Smith actually was trying to engage him. The rest of us certainly were.
Both players received minor penalties for roughing.
