Montreal Canadiens defenseman Douglas Murray will receive a call from Brendan Shanahan after a high hit Tuesday night knocked Tampa Bay Lightning blueliner Michael Kostka out of the game.
Murray leveled Kostka with an elbow to the chin as the Lightning defenseman carried the puck into the Canadiens’ zone with just over two minutes to play in the third period. Murray was given a game misconduct for the hit and now faces a phone hearing with the NHL’s office of player safety.
The hearing is scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday, according to multiple reports, and can result in a suspension of no more than five games. Murray has never been suspended in his 10-year NHL career.
As of Wednesday morning, the Lightning, who won the game 3-1, had not offered an update on Kostka’s condition. The Tampa Bay training staff brought a stretcher out onto the ice, but Kostka was able to skate off under his own power.
