Chicago Cubs Make Routine Pop-Up Look Anything But As Players Collide (GIF)

Chicago Cubs reliever Pedro Strop clotheslined his own catcher, John Baker, during the ninth inning of Thursday’s game against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

The two violently collided after they both pursued Gaby Sanchez’s harmless bunt that popped up just a few feet in front of home plate. While the pitcher usually takes the brunt of the impact in these types of situations, it was Baker who was left stunned. The Cubs catcher went down hard and sprawled out on the grass for a few moments, looking dazed.

Fortunately, Baker was uninjured on the play and remained in the game for the final two outs. Strop clearly must have known that because he didn’t seem too concerned about his teammate, trotting away from the scene of the crime pretty casually.

Against all odds — the collision and Junior Lake wearing the wrong uniform — the Cubs came away with their first win of the season.
