When the Boston Bruins open the Stanley Cup playoffs Friday night against the Detroit Red Wings, they might do so without two of their most experienced forwards.
Third-line center Chris Kelly and fourth-liner Daniel Paille both are nursing injuries and could sit out Game 1 against the Wings. Their absence would leave a void not only in the bottom-six forward group but also on the Bruins’ penalty-kill unit, on which both play a major role.
