Creighton senior forward Doug McDermott won the John R. Wooden Award, one of most prestigious player of the year honors handed out each college basketball season.

Duke freshman forward Jabari Parker and Louisville senior guard Russ Smith finished second and third in the Wooden voting, respectively.
McDermott, who also won the Big East player of the year award, led the nation in scoring with 26.7 points per game. He ended his collegiate career fifth on the all-time scoring list with 3,150 points. He also averaged 7.0 rebounds per game and shot 52.6 percent from the field, including an impressive 44.9 percent rate from beyond the arc.

Creighton finished the season with a 27-8 record and was eliminated from the NCAA tournament by Baylor in the Round of 32.
McDermott is expected to be a lottery pick (top-14 selection) in the 2014 NBA draft.
