Daniel Nava Back In Leadoff Spot For Red Sox’s Home Opener At Fenway

Daniel NavaDaniel Nava, who provided some Opening Day heroics last season, will return to the leadoff spot for Friday’s home opener at Fenway Park.

Nava led off the first two games of 2014 before sliding down into the six spot for Thursday’s series finale against the Baltimore Orioles at Camden Yards. Jonny Gomes led off Thursday.

The Red Sox’s outfield, which figures to feature several combinations this season, especially while Shane Victorino is sidelined, will consist of Nava (right field), Grady Sizemore (center field) and Mike Carp (left field). Carp also started in left field for Monday’s season opener.

Sizemore, who received Thursday night off with Jackie Bradley Jr. starting in center field, is expected to play Friday and Saturday, according to Red Sox manager John Farrell. The club then will decide whether to start Sizemore on Sunday, although it wouldn’t be surprising if he sat out the series finale given that it’s a day game after a night game.
