Derek JeterNew York Yankees captain Derek Jeter picked up two hits in Sunday’s win against the Toronto Blue Jays, increasing his career total to 3,320 and pushing him into eighth place on the all-time hits list.

Jeter surpassed Baseball Hall of Famer Paul Molitor’s tally of 3,319.

“It’s special. I grew up watching Paul,” Jeter said, via MLB.com. “I have a lot of respect for him and his career. Any time you talk about eighth in anything, it’s special. It definitely means a lot.”

The 39-year-old shortstop now trails Boston Red Sox legend Carl Yastrzemski’s by only 99 hits for seventh all time, but he insists that he is not obsessed with the statistics.

“I’m aware of it when I get close to someone, but it’s not like I have some sort of a checklist at home that I’m going over,” Jeter said. “This year in particular, I’m just happy to be back out there playing.”

Pete Rose currently tops the all-time hits list with a career total of 4,256.
