Eric Decker will wear No. 87 when he takes the field as a New York Jet this season, but keeping his lucky number came at a pretty steep price.

Decker, who has worn No. 87 ever since the Denver Broncos selected him with the 87th overall pick in the 2010 NFL draft, faced a problem when he signed a five-year, $36.25 million contract with the Jets last month. The number already was taken by Jets tight end Jeff Cumberland, but he was willing to work out a deal with Decker, forking over the number for $25,000 and a steak dinner, according to the New York Daily News’ Manish Mehta.

Cumberland, who signed a three-year, $3.7 million deal to remain with the Jets this offseason, now will wear No. 85.
