The spearing trend in this year’s Stanley Cup playoffs continued as Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Andrew MacDonald became the latest player to issue the cheap shot.
During the third period of Game 7 Wednesday night in New York, MacDonald and Daniel Carcillo got into a scuffle in front of the Flyers’ net. After Carcillo shoved MacDonald to the ice, the Philly blueliner, who already had his stick between Carcillo’s legs, retaliated by lifting it.
The groin shot was likely done out of frustration, but it was a frustrating night overall for the Flyers as they fell to the Rangers 2-1.
