Do you have too many friends on Facebook?

The Philadelphia Flyers are suggesting that their fans unfriend New York Rangers fans on Facebook ahead of the rivals’ first-round Stanley Cup playoff series, which begins Thursday night at Madison Square Garden.

The link that the Flyers provided via Twitter takes you to a Facebook page that lists all of your friends who “like” the Rangers’ official page.

The idea of removing Rangers fans from your Facebook list doesn’t make too much sense because how else will Philly fans talk trash on their New York friends’ timeline after the series, and vice versa?

The Flyers and Rangers haven’t met in the playoffs since the 1997 Eastern Conference finals, when Philadelphia defeated New York 4-1 and advanced to the Stanley Cup Final. The Broad Street club went on to be swept by the Detroit Red Wings.
