It was a scary scene Thursday night in Salt Lake City when San Francisco Giants minor leaguer Darren Ford took a headfirst dive into a concrete wall while laying out for a foul ball.
Ford, who plays for the Triple-A Fresno Grizzlies, was running full speed when he dove down the left field line and violently collided with the wall. Ford’s teammates immediately rushed to his side as he remained motionless on the field.
The 28-year-old was placed on a stretcher as a precaution and was transported off the field in an ambulance, but fortunately he appears to have avoided a potentially devastating head injury. According to his agent, Joshua Kusnick, Ford never lost consciousness and he had full movement of his arms and legs.
Giants vice president Bobby Evans said Ford suffered a concussion and multiple abrasions, and he will get results of other tests Friday.
Marek Warszawski of the Fresno Bee reported Friday that Ford was medically cleared to travel home with the team.
