Daniel AggerDaniel Agger should be ready to play for Liverpool against Manchester City on Sunday. Whether or not he’ll step foot on the Anfield turf during the game remains to be seen.

Agger has recovered from a minor knee injury, which kept him out of Premier League-leading Liverpool’s 2-1 victory over West Ham last Sunday, according to the Liverpool Echo.

Agger, 29, practiced with his teammates Wednesday, but there is no guarantee that Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers will select him to partner with Martin Skrtel in the middle of the Reds’ defense.

Mamadou Sakho played center back against West Ham, and Rodgers spoke glowingly about him Monday.

“Sakho coped really well with it, having been out of the side for so long,” Rodgers said. “But I thought both center-backs were very good.”

Agger started six consecutive games before the contest against West Ham, and the Reds won all of them. He has played 20 games in all competitions this season, as injuries have repeatedly interrupted his campaign.

While the Dane didn’t play in Liverpool’s last game against third-place Manchester City — a 2-1 defeat Dec. 26 — he’ll be keen to return to the lineup Sunday.
