jarrod saltalamacchiaMiami Marlins catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia received a nice piece of jewelry before his game against the New York Mets on Sunday.

Saltalamacchia, who spent the last three-plus seasons with the Boston Red Sox before leaving via free agency, was presented with the World Series ring he earned as a member of the Red Sox’s 2013 championship team.

“It’s awesome,” Salty said of the 14-karat gold ring. “It’s better than I thought it was going to be. It’s nice actually have it in hand … it’s really cool.

“It represents everything that we went through the whole year. A lot (of) guys play a long time to get one of these or even make it (to the World Series), so I’m pretty fortunate.”

Saltalamacchia then went out an had himself a nice day at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two walks in a 4-0 Marlins loss. He’s hitting .257 with four home runs and seven RBIs in 23 games so far this season.
