Milwaukee Brewers shortstop Jean Segura was forced to leave Saturday’s game against the Chicago Cubs in the first inning after being accidentally struck in the face by a Ryan Braun practice swing in the dugout.

Due up second in the inning, Segura was walking up the dugout steps when Braun, who was standing on the top step, swung his bat behind him forcefully and clocked his unsuspecting teammate. Segura had to be helped to the Milwaukee clubhouse by teammates and the trainer appeared to be in a considerable amount of pain.

The team has not provided an update on the 24-year-old’s status, but according to Brewers pitching coach Rich Kranitz on the Fox Sports Wisconsin telecast, via Brewers beat writer Tom Haudricourt, Segura has a “pretty good gash over his eye.”
