John Farrell: Red Sox To Use Ryan Roberts In Platoon At Third Base

The Boston Red Sox added a versatile, right-handed hitter to their lineup Monday, signing free agent utilityman Ryan Roberts to a major league deal.

The Red Sox placed Will Middlebrooks on the disabled list Sunday, and although they could have brought up third-base prospect Garin Cecchini from Triple-A Pawtucket, manager John Farrell told reporters the timing wasn’t quite right yet.

Instead, Farrell said Roberts and Jonathan Herrera will be used in a platoon situation at third base.

Check out the video above to hear from Roberts and Farrell before the Red Sox’s game against the Texas Rangers.

Aetna Strike Out Homeless

For every strikeout by a Red Sox pitcher at Fenway Park in June, Aetna will donate $250 to Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program. Through their continued efforts in the local community, Aetna is helping to build a healthier world -- one city and one strikeout at a time.
